Role Overview:
The Utilities and Environment Expert leads and coordinates utilities and environmental initiatives across all four breweries, serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for sustainability-focused utility systems. The role supports the creation and implementation of long-term strategic roadmaps focused on sustainability, operational excellence, and compliance with legislation and AEI standards. It oversees major CAPEX projects, drives energy and water optimization efforts, leads waste reduction programs, and ensures best practices are shared and adopted across all sites. The position also ensures adherence to environmental and safety regulations, while supporting continuous improvement in utility-related areas.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Governance
- Support the development and execution of 10-year strategic roadmaps for sustainable utilities and waste, in line with AEI and local sustainability visions.
- Establish and monitor KPIs to track the performance of utilities, waste management, and environmental impact.
- Coordinate compliance with environmental legislation and AEI sustainability standards.
- Act as Romania's subject matter expert in cross-country projects, audits, and best practice development.
CAPEX and Utilities Management
- Lead major CAPEX projects in the utilities area: from base design to commissioning, including HAZOP analysis and snag list resolution.
- Oversee utility systems including water and wastewater treatment, refrigeration, boiler house, compressed air, CO2 recovery, and power generation/distribution.
- Drive energy, water efficiency, and CO2 reduction projects using AEI tools and sustainability levers.
- Manage all Value Engineering (VE) initiatives in the areas of utilities, waste, and environment.
- Support the development of CAPEX plans and budgets and assist brewery managers in building business cases.
Audit and Compliance
- Prepare for and lead external and internal audits (e.g. ISO 50001 and ISO 14001), acting as the designated management representative.
- Coordinate implementation of new legislation and regulatory/AEI standards in utilities and environmental domains.
- Support procurement teams in contracting for sustainability-related services, including future agreements like VPPA/VGPA.
Leadership and Team Development
- Act as the key contact for AEI consultants on physical risks (e.g., ammonia leaks, dust explosions, CO2 hazards) and environmental assessments (e.g., water scarcity, CO2 emissions).
- Identify training needs with brewery utility teams and assess feasibility of new technologies and methodologies.
- Provide guidance on risk mitigation and system reliability in utilities operations.
Technology, Compliance & Reporting
- Evaluate new technologies and methods for business relevance and sustainability impact.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards, and coordinate the implementation of new legal and AEI requirements.
- Act as SME for Romania in cross-European AEI projects, audits, and best practice exchange.
- Support procurement in sustainability-related contracts (e.g., VPPA/VGPA).
- Monitor KPIs for SD utilities and waste, ensuring accurate reporting (e.g., SD scorecard, flash reports) and documentation.
Effective Work & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure each brewery maintains a driving system to meet annual targets.
- Lead loss deployment analysis for critical KPIs and support structured problem-solving as needed.
Requirements (must have):
- University degree in a technical discipline: Brewing, Food Technology, Food Process Engineering, Power Engineering, or Thermal Techniques.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a production, utilities, or energy department within the food industry or another production environment of similar complexity.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Requirements (nice to have):
- Experience leading major CAPEX projects related to utilities or sustainability.
- Familiarity with ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 management systems and audit processes.
- Prior involvement in CO2, water efficiency, or waste reduction initiatives in a corporate environment.
- Knowledge of AEI sustainability tools or prior experience working within a multinational brewery or food manufacturing company.
- Exposure to Value Engineering practices in environmental or utility-related projects.
